Winnipeg weather

A lot of people from back home in Rwanda have been asking me to do a review about the weather in Winnipeg ever since I moved here, which was last year. I am very pleased to do it for you guys. There are four main seasons in Winnipeg: winter, spring, summer, and fall. My least favorite is winter. Hence, I will be discussing life during each one of these seasons, starting with fall.

Fall was the first season I experienced living here, honestly fall really goes by so fast here in Winnipeg. During this season, leaves on the trees start their transformation to interesting shades of orange, red, and yellow. Pathways are always covered by fallen leaves which I find really vintage. This is when I become very stylish because the temperature is still favourable in this season.

After fall, comes winter, ugh, “groan”. “Monday the temperature will hit – 39 degrees celcius, it’s going to be very windy with a wind chill of… today’s weather forecast was brought to you by…”, yells the lady on the weather forecast. In a cold week, watching the weather forecast, for me is always detrimental. A good definition of winter in Winnipeg is “Hell on earth”. Literally, I have never experienced such a thing. Let that sink in before you move out here. Think of what you are getting yourself into. The weather in winter can be cute when it’s not windy, there’s no snow storm, and it is above -5 degrees. Otherwise, it’s always between -15 degrees and -35 degrees. My worst nightmare is when I have school or work and am forced to bus in -50 degree weather. This is when I wish I had never existed. Winter in Winnipeg isn’t really bad if you drive. This year has been my second year experiencing winter and I have to say, I have got used to it, and I don’t have to wear a corn like I did when I first came here.

After winter, spring starts to slowly creep in, giving us all that sunshine. The ice starts melting, and there can been extreme flooding, which is no fun. April is usually when we see the last of the winter’s snow. Then follows my favorite season, summer. “Ayyeee, screams hysterically. Thinking of the warm weather elevates my mood. All that sunshine, the revival of all the animals, plants, insects etc. There are a lot of outdoor activities to do in summer, like festivals. A lot of people usually gets married during this time, I mean, why not? I usually like to go to Grand Beach with friends, and you can always spot me at Assiniboine Park soaking in that nice summer heat.

All in all, you guys can see that my favorite season is summer, winter being my least favorite. If you are considering moving here, I hope today’s blog really helps you.
